Living Reminders of the Tranby in Western Australia
The hard-working people of the National Trust of Western Australia and volunteers maintain the historic Peninsula Farm in
the suburb of Maylands. It has one of the oldest brick houses in the State and the earliest domestic residence still extant in the inner
metropolitan area.

Peninsula Farm remained in the Hardey family until 1913.
Joseph Hardey, and his son Richard (who took over management of the property in the late 1860s), were highly influential in the religious, business and political activities of the colony.
It is now only open for inspection: Friday and Saturday, 10:30am to 1:00 pm, and the home contains some items of furniture that were transported on the Tranby in 1829.
The property also features the Peninsula Farm Café open for meals and events.

Tranby College is an independent, Kindergarten to Year 12, co-educational College of the Uniting Church located in Baldivis in WA. When the foundation Council of the College was establishing this new Uniting Church school, they did not hesitate to select Tranby as an appropriate name.
As the Principal states: " Tranby College is a school that connects and inspires, fosters imagination and innovation, creativity, passion and purpose". The original Tranby passengers would be proud that these ideals are being instilled into all current Tranby graduates as they make their way into the future of Western Australia. |
Wesley College, informally known as 'Wesley', is an independent, day and boarding school for boys and girls (co-ed to Year 6 and boys only Years 7–12), situated in South Perth, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia.
Wesley College has eight 'houses' in the Senior school; Cygnet, Hardey, Mofflin, Tranby, Grove, Walton, Dickson, Jenkins and six in the Junior school; Hardey, Mofflin, Grove, Walton, Dickson, Jenkins. Each house is named in honour of an individual (or a ship) who has had an association with the school, including A. H. Dickinson, one of the founders of the school and Joseph Hardey. |
Tranby Primary School (now Rivervale Primary School)
The Tranby Primary School, in the City of Belmont, was established on land formally owned by John Wall Hardey (On the former Location 34, known as 'Belmont Farm') The school was opened in 1952 as the Ascot Primary School and renamed Tranby Primary School the following year. As much of the area served by this school was originally farmed by the Hardeys and other settlers who came by the Tranby, the perpetuation of the old name was deemed to be most appropriate.
The School was later renamed (during the 2000's) to The Rivervale Primary School and the direct link to the name Tranby was lost. It is located in a residential area which has a mixture of older houses and many new townhouse developments. The school has a student population of around 250 and is thriving.
The school has a faction competition that runs throughout the year in addition to the Sports Carnival. Students can earn points for their positive behaviour and good work in class and Faction Winners are well rewarded each term with a special event.

Note: The name, 'Methodist', as used on this site, is synonymous and interchangeable with 'Wesleyan', and refers to that Christian movement founded by John Wesley, in the 1700s, as a society within the Established Church. Wesleyan Methodism (WM), descended from founder John Wesley and is the Methodist denomination regarded as mainstream, and that to which the Hardeys and Clarksons belonged. By 1849, Wesley Methodism was a separate denomination, although it regarded itself a daughter of the 'Established Church' still referring to itself as a society (or 'Connexion') well into the nineteenth century.
