Robert Simpson
Robert Simpson was born in Yorkshire, England, during 1808.
In 1829, he was listed as a 'Joiner and Carpenter', was single, and was Indentured to the Clarkson brothers. Robert departed Hull on the Tranby on Wednesday, 9th September 1829. The Tranby then sailed via Cape Town. |
After Arrival in Fremantle.
The Tranby arrived Gage's Road, off Fremantle, on the 3rd of February 1830.
Robert then came ashore with the rest of the Tranby folk. The wide range of Livestock, the Goods and Chattels, stores and provisions from England, and the Cape, were then brought ashore onto the beach. It was two weeks before all of the goods on Tranby had been transferred to the shore. In time, the Tranby folk then made their way up the River to the Peninsula Farm (now in the suburb of Maylands)
Robert would have been working on the Peninsula, for the Clarkson brothers.
Robert was recorded as having absconded from his indenture and he is believed to have secretly left the Colony, on the Kate on the 12th of April 1831.
The Colony's Census conducted next year in 1832, however, shows a Robert Simpson, as being single, aged 23 years, working for the Clarksons, as a Labourer.
Robert must have returned to the Swan River Colony before 1841, as he is recorded as being admitted to the Perth Hospital. At the time, he was living in Guildford.
Robert left the Colony in November 1848, aboard the Waterlily but he returned again, on the John Bagshaw, during January 1849.
It is not known when Robert Simpson died.
